Massage

We offer 6 free sessions of Massage to patients and their carers as part of the Centre’s holistic approach to care. All of our Massage Therapists are fully qualified members of a Professional Body.

What is massage?

Using their hands, a massage therapist applies a variety of movements and pressures to the body. The therapist often uses a base oil or blended oils which will nourish the skin. Massage helps to relax aching muscles, release areas of tension and soothe nerves thus promoting well-being.

How can massage help?

Massage can soothe, revitalize, uplift the spirit and encourage positive thinking. It may also boost the immune system and
encourage self-healing.

Amongst other things, massage can:

  • · Induce a deep feeling of relaxation
  • · Relieve stress, tension & anxiety
  • · Calm & soothe the mind
  • · Promote a sense of well-being
  • · Help to lift the mood and reduce feelings of depression
  • · Aid pain & symptom relief
  • · Relieve muscular aches & pains
  • · Alleviate shoulder & neck tension
  • · Improve muscle tone & balance
  • · Improve flexibility & joint mobility
  • · Increases blood circulation bringing oxygen & nutrients to the muscles
  • · Enhance lymphatic drainage
  • · Improve fatigue and insomnia
  • How will massage make me feel?

During Massage, you can expect to feel relaxed, comfortable and supported physically and emotionally. You will be asked to undress in a private room (removing as much or as little clothing as you feel comfortable with) and to lie on a treatment couch under towels. No body part will be massaged without your consent. The Massage will be gentle and soothing and the room warm and peaceful. On your first visit, a medical case history will be taken and there will be a preliminary talk to make your treatment plan. Treatment will last for up to an hour (although most sessions last for just half an hour) and you may feel tired afterwards. We advise you to stay in the Centre until you feel ready to travel home.

How do I make an appointment?

Contact a member of our Centre staff or ring 020 3315 2386. Someone will then telephone you to make an appointment. Initially, you will be offered six free Massage sessions. If, after your 6 sessions, we are unable to offer you more sessions, we will refer you to therapists or centres in the local area.

What happens after I have had 6 sessions?

You will have a chat with our Complementary Therapies Co-ordinator who will discuss with you any benefits you may have had from the massage. If you would like to continue receiving massage, we can refer you to a local therapist for further sessions.

N.B. We would appreciate as much notice as possible when appointments are being cancelled (at least 24hrs).We understand this may be difficult, but it enables us to offer the appointment to someone else.
